Assessment of performance Fleetwood Mac - Albatross
Nice to hear this on your new Les Paul, Bob!
Over all, you have shown good attention to phrasing. Here are some observations:
1. Use a metronome count-in for timing accuracy (GP6) - Preferably use the backing track I've now put in the Dropbox and add the missing lead parts. Could you upload a new version for next month's assessment?
2. Confirm neck (rhythm) pickup selection for tone. It looks like you have the neck pickup on but the tone is suspiciously bright and rather sounds like the bridge pickup. Maybe check your amp's EQ settings?
3. Slides - not reaching note or letting note choke off.
4. 00:27 Phrasing (finger roll too slow).
5. Bend licks - Overbending on full-tone bends, and not releasing fully to neutral pitch before re-bending.
6. Inaccurate phrasing with the repeated bends - Check tab for phrasing.
7. Pre (reverse) bends - Pitch drop too slow (refer to original recording for phrasing).
8. 01:28 lick - Not fully releasing bend to neutral before playing note at 9th fret .
9. 01:42 Pre-bends, phrasing as above.
10. 02:19 Open string noise - Need to rest picking hand on unused lower strings.
Summary:
Your current weak points are -
1) String bending accuracy. You may have noticed that since switching to the Les Paul you are now overbending more often than you are underbending, as a result of smaller scale length and lower string tension.
2) Holding slurred notes (slides, mainly) for their full value, and with accurate timing. Slides tend to "choke off".
3) Fully releasing bent notes back to neutral (unbent) pitch.
4) Keeping unused strings quiet using picking hand muting.
